Our leadership

Thomas P. Gallagher is one of the Company’s principal founders and has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MIH and the MIAX Exchanges since 2008. Mr. Gallagher has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of MIH and the MIAX Exchanges since 2012.

Douglas M. Schafer Jr. has served as the Company’s Executive Vice President, Chief Information Officer of MIH since March 2011. Mr. Schafer also serves as President of Miami International Technologies since March 2011. 

Barbara J. Comly is one of the Company’s principal founders and the Company’s Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. She has served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary since the Company’s inception in 2007.

Shelly Brown has served as the Company’s Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer since November 2025 and previously served as Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development from April 2011 until November 2025. 

Lance Emmons has served as the Company’s Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer since March 2020. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Emmons served as Chief Financial Officer of several startups, including Princeton Identity from June 2018 to April 2019. 

Edward Deitzel is Executive Vice President, Chief Regulatory Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for the MIAX Exchanges. Mr. Deitzel has served as our Chief Regulatory Officer since March 2009 and Chief Compliance Officer for the MIAX Exchanges since October 2015. 

John Smollen has served as the Company’s Executive Vice President, New Product Development since November 2025 and previously served as Executive Vice President, Head of Exchange Traded Products and Strategic Relations from July 2015 until November 2025. He served as a Managing Director for Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2011 and as a floor director at Cboe from 2001 to 2010. 

Harish Jayabalan has served as Chief Risk Officer of the MIAX Exchanges since joining the Company in August 2011 and as an Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for the Company since September 2022. 

Cees is the Chief Executive Officer of The International Stock Exchange Group Limited, a position he has held since November 2020. With a strong focus on strategy, business development and infrastructure, he is responsible for all aspects of leadership and management of the Company.
