MIAX Options Reports April 2016 Trading Activity; Remains #1 in Time at NBBO for Both All Option Classes and Penny Pilot Option Classes for March 2016

Princeton, NJ – May 4, 2016 – MIAX Options Exchange today announced that over 22.2 million contracts were executed on MIAX Options in April 2016, equating to an average daily volume (ADV) of over 1.06 million contracts. The over 22.2 million contracts executed represents a 4.6% increase from the over 21.2 million contracts executed in March 2016 and a 1.8% increase from the approximately 21.9 million contracts executed in April 2015. Since its launch in December 2012, a total of over half a billion contracts have now been executed on MIAX Options.

MIAX Options’ year-to-date total as of April 2016 of over 82.3 million contracts represents a 10.3% increase over MIAX Options’ total volume of approximately 74.6 million contracts achieved during the same time period in 2015. MIAX Options’ April equity options market share of 7.41% represents a 1.6% increase from the 7.29% achieved in April 2015 and a 7.5% increase from the 6.89% achieved in March 2016. For the entire U.S. equity options industry, April’s ADV was over 14.31 million contracts, or a 0.1% increase from April 2015’s ADV of over 14.30 million contracts.

Other achievements include:

  • During March 2016, MIAX Options ranked #1 out of all U.S. equity options exchanges in percentage of time at the National Best Bid/Offer (NBBO) in aggregate across all option classes. This marked the eighth month in a row that MIAX Options achieved this distinction.

  • During March 2016, MIAX Options ranked #1 out of all U.S. equity options exchanges in percentage of time at the NBBO in aggregate across all Penny Pilot option classes. This marked the seventh month in a row that MIAX Options achieved this distinction. Statistics for both all option classes and Penny Pilot option classes were provided by the TABB Group.
